EKU Installs Solar Panels on New Science Building

On June 24th 2013, a 7-panel solar array was installed on the roof of the new science building. The array is easily visible from the lounges on the 4th and 5th floors on the far east end of of the building. The system can produce up to 1.6 kWh of power--or the equivalent of 160 gallons of gasoline per year. The energy is fed directly into the building's energy grid. The system cost $13,000, and should pay for itself in energy savings in about 10 years. It will reduce the university's carbon footprint by about 1.57 tons annually--about the amout that 47 trees could clean from the air in one year.  For more info see: http://www.prm.eku.edu/Update/?issue=198&department=0&article=2979
